This report provides an international review of Smart Data initiatives, offering a comparative analysis of implementation models to inform strategic considerations for the UK. The international landscape of data portability reveals a clear evolution from single-sector Open Banking towards economy-wide Smart Data frameworks. However, distinct implementation models have emerged in different jurisdictions, each with inherent strengths and weaknesses. This report categorises these into three main types: regulator-mandated, market-facilitated and public infrastructure-led.
