The Future of Synthetic Media

26 November 2024

The DRCF has published a new paper exploring the development of synthetic media over the next three to five years. Part of our horizon scanning work, the research looked at both opportunities and potential risks, such as the personalisation of content, application of digital twins, creation of harmful content and disinformation.

The paper explores the potential regulatory considerations of each of those opportunities and risks, as well as outlining detection methods such as watermarking and labelling content. Read it in full here.

This is a summary of stakeholders’ views and not a policy position of DRCF member regulators. Going forward, DRCF and its regulators will continue to follow the development of synthetic media and deepfakes technologies, while engaging with industry, government, civil society and others.
